How I price IT support
I do not publish a single price list, because the right price depends on how many people you have, what you rely on and how quickly you need help. What I will do is explain the options plainly and put the scope and price in writing before you commit, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Four ways to work together
| Option | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Pay as you go | You pay for the time a problem takes, with no commitment. | Simple setups that rarely need help. |
| Block of hours | You buy a set amount of time in advance and use it as needed. | Occasional help with a predictable budget. |
| Managed support | A regular monthly fee covering ongoing support and care of your users and systems. | Teams that rely on IT every day. |
| Fixed-price project | One agreed price for a defined piece of work, such as a migration or an office move. | Planned changes with a clear end. |
What affects the price
- The number of users and devices
- How fast you need a response, and during which hours
- Remote support compared with on-site visits
- Security, backup and compliance needs
- The number of systems and suppliers involved
- Licences, such as Microsoft 365, which are usually billed separately
What I set out in writing before you commit
- Exactly what is included, and what would cost extra
- Response times and support hours
- The price, and what would make it change
- Licences itemised, so you can see what each one costs
- Who holds the administrator accounts and documentation (you should)
- How the agreement ends, if you decide to move on
If you are comparing providers, my guide How much does IT support cost? lists the questions to ask any of them, including me.
Not sure which option you need?
A short conversation is usually enough to tell. Tell me how many people use IT, what you rely on and what is not working, and I will say which option looks sensible and which does not.
Frequently asked questions
Do you charge for the first conversation?
The first conversation is free.
Is there a minimum contract length?
It depends on the option. I will state any minimum term in writing before you agree.
Are Microsoft 365 licences included?
They can be included or billed separately. Either way I will show them itemised so you can see exactly what you pay.
Can I start with one project and move to ongoing support later?
Yes. Many clients start with a specific problem or review and move to ongoing support if it suits them.
